Norwegian Saboteurs

This multi day adventure will take you deep into Hardangervidda National Park in the Norwegian county of Telemark.

This tough cross country skiing adventure will allow you a unique insight into some of the challenges faced by this heroic band of brothers.

Retrace the steps of the series of WW2 special operations known as the Norwegian Heavy Water Sabotage, the aim of which was to prevent the German nuclear weapon project from acquiring heavy water. The attack has been the subject of numerous films, dramas, documentaries and books. We follow the attack route on skis and visit the famous Svensbu/Fetter cabin on the way.

Be immersed in the beautiful, and often harsh, winter wilderness of the Hardangervidda – the largest mountain plateau in Europe, with an average elevation of over 1100m. Our route takes us through the area where Roald Amundsen nearly died when training for his South Pole expedition.  Amundsen later recalled that his ski trip across the Hardangervidda was “so strenuous and dangerous as any of my travels”.

Learn about Norwegian hut-to-hut touring, allowing you to return to any of the 37 mainland national parks using any of the 550 Norwegian Trekking Association (DNT) huts during winter or summer. We visit manned and unmanned huts and spend a night camping on the snow.

Experience the wildlife, food and culture of the Telemark region – from reindeer herds to berries and fungi to fishing.

Challenge yourself by learning not just how to survive in the harshest conditions but also to appreciate and enjoy them.
